| The Flathead National Forest and Glacier Country Avalanche Center, in partnership with Whitefish Mountain Resort, are hosting an Avalanche Awareness Day on Saturday, January 23, 10am- 2pm, at the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort, Whitefish, Montana. The annual event is an opportunity to learn about avalanche dangers, safety equipment, search and rescue techniques, and snow science.
Avalanche safety equipment, information and displays will be available in the lower level of the Summit House at the Summit Nature Center. Demonstration stations outside the Summit House will showcase equipment and allow participants some hands-on experience, including an opportunity to test beacon and rescue skills at the recently installed beacon park. A snow pit will be dug to provide additional awareness about determining snow conditions, and rescue-dog demonstrations will take place. Avalanche and winter backcountry specialists will assist with equipment and techniques.
